          Latvia is included in the UNESCO list of the unique Heritage of Human Civilization due to the stunning architecture of the famous Jugendstil, festivals of national costume, song and dance. And, of course, a unique collection of ornamental motifs for mittens. There are more than 5 thousand of them.
          Such variety is not accidental. According to ancient Pogan traditions, a mitten in Latvia is more than a garment. It is a symbol of kindness and love. The pattern on the mitten is the language that the craftswoman speaks to you. Symbols are combined into a pattern, like letters are added into words ... words of a prayer or lyric chants about life and love, about happiness are the words of Dainas - epic song.
           The cultural heritage of our ancestors gave us the opportunity to decorate our usual garment with handmade elements. And thus brings in it a unique flavor and originality. Fill it with special meaning, warmth and care.         

          You have a unique opportunity to master unusual techniques in knitting, and create your lyrical Daina.

           
          The MASTER CLASS program takes into account the interests of both lovers of trying new techniques in knitting and the interests of those who are passionate about the creative process of constructing compositions and selecting color combinations.
           We are happy to welcome those who want to take part in a small excursion into the History of ornamental graphics and come closer to the origins of our Common Balto-Slavic Culture.
           The program is flexible and divided into thematic days. 

            DAY 1 - mini tour in Old Riga - my escort from 2 to 4 hours

            Introductory tour of the Medieval part of the city of Riga / Ambassadorial Quarter - a unique architecture included in the UNESCO heritage list - the  Pearl of the Baltic Art Nouveau. Optional visit to the Dome Cathedral and a mini concert of Organ music.

             The tour is only possible on a working day of the week.

             DAY 2 - CRASH MASTER CLASS - Composition and Color Matching  - 2 "academic couples" (1.5 hours + 1.5 hours)        

            This day is more suitable for those who do not stop at what they have achieved on the first day.
            For those who want to try themselves in the creative process of building a composition , and are keen on colors compilation, wants to develop his artistic sensibility and create his own works of Arts and Crafts.    
            Together we will discuss your solutions and compare the variants, share our impressions and analyze possible errors.

            The schedule of this day also provides an introductory lecture - a short excursion into the History of Ornamental Graphics . Common origins and national characteristics. The meaning of symbols in patterned graphics. 

           DAY 3 - CRASH MASTER CLASS - Knitting Technique   - 2 "academic pairs" (1.5 hours + 1.5 hours)
           This day is fully suitable for those who are more orientated on practical training in knitting techniques. 

           You will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the knitting process of the traditional National Latvian mittens "from A to Z".
           One of the mittens that makes up the unique collection of the State Ethnographic Museum of Latvia will be used as a sample.
           In the process of communication, you will surely have a desire to share your knitting tips with other participants in the MASTER CLASS, to demonstrate finished products . All this will be possible within the framework of the DAY 1 in an inviting conversation over a fragrant cup of tea or coffee. 
     * In case of individual training the tutorial contains methods and techniques which are necessary for particular composition

             DAY 4 - a walk around the "YARN" places in Riga  - my escort from 2 to 4 hours 
             The program includes visits to several brand stores based on production of Latvian factories, where everyone can buy the assortment they like.  The trip is possible only on a working day of the week . 

             DAY 5 - trip to the resort towns of JURMALA / SIGULDA  - the trip takes a full day
             The trip is possible if the weather is good for walking in nature.
             Jurmala is a resort area, a visit to an observation tower with views of the Gulf of Riga, a walk along the beach and a snak in summer cafes.
             Sigulda is a city with medieval buildings in the Esten part of Latvia. It is considered as  "Latvian Switzerland" - Turaida Castle, Gutman's Cave and a cable car with magnificent views.
